Cool-Brewing Fermentation Cooler Home Brewing and Wine Making Supplies from American Brewmaster in Brewing Accessories and Tools

Cool-Brewing Fermentation Cooler

The Cool-Brewing Fermentation Cooler is an excellent, hassle free way to keep your fermentation temperatures cool.
Weather you're fermenting ales in the summer or lagers anytime, this 100% waterproof, insulated bag will keep your
fermentations cool.

I've used this method by freezing 2 liter soda bottles full (almost full, leave a little room for expansion) of water. These can stay frozen up to 2 days, but this will vary with each individual situation. I usually have two bottles in the freezer and two in the cooler. I simply swap them out when the ones in the fermentation chamber have melted.

This cooler bag will accommodate most 5 gallon and 6.5 gallon carboy and fermenting buckets.  The size of this cooler bag is 26.5” x 20.5”  inches (HxD).  As the size of carboy’s and fermenters can vary please measure yours prior to ordering if you have any concerns.

The size of a standard 6.5 gallon fermenter bucket is: 22”x18”

The size of a standard 6.5 gallon carboy is 20.5”x12.5”

Normal ale fermentation temperatures range from 68 to 72 degrees F or (20 to 22 degrees C).

Normal Lager fermentation temperatures range from 48 to 55 degrees F.

If ideal temperatures ranges for the yeast you are using isn't listed on the package, ask at your local homebrew shop, or look on the manufacturer's webpage. They list tons of great information.

The amount of ice needed will vary based on individual circumstances. However, testing has shown a rough average as follows for a 5 gallon batch of lager:

Two 2-liters of frozen water lowered actively fermenting wort  an average of 11 degrees for 24 to 36 hours before thawing.

Three 2 liters frozen water lowered actively fermenting wort an average of 15 degrees for 24 to 48 hours before thawing.

Use approximately one 2-liter bottle of frozen water to lower fermentation temperature by 2.5 degrees farenheit. This will vary, so run your own tests.
